Float - Make Desktop Fun Again is an app that allows the user to add widgets, some unique and others based on existing apps, to their desktop.
Widgety and fidgety
Float can be used to add any of dozens of widgets to your desktop. You can configure them, move them around on your desktop, change how they float, and use them multiple different ways. The app itself is largely feature complete, outside of requiring many apps associated with widgets to be open with no way to "hide" the associated app in the Dock. A bigger issue is the widget selection: though it's frequently expanded and the developer takes suggestions, there's basically no way to find widgets for a purpose you need if you don't find them right away.
Building a new desktop
Overall, Float is an easy and fun way to customize your desktop and get a bit of functionality and, as promised, fun that few other apps can offer on their own. Its deficiencies are easy to overlook if you find the widgets useful enough, and there's enough variety there that most users probably will.
